When I began photographing weddings 12 years ago they were completely different. Wedding magazines had been around for a while, but wedding blogs were a newer thing. Pinterest wasn’t a thing. You would cut out photographs and tips from magazines and put them into a folder. Now, we have the internet and social media at our fingertips. There are details from this wedding that will live with me forever. When Alexandra contacted me about photographing her wedding, one of the first things she mentioned was that her mother had passed away. She told me that her mom loved red roses and that there would be little touches of red roses throughout the day to remember her by. They placed red roses on the chair her mother would have sat in during the ceremony and then again at the reception. She also took a handwritten note that her mom had written her and got her handwriting embroidered on a handkerchief. Alexandra and her father had a very emotional first look with each other, as they talked about and remembered her mom. It was truly hard to keep my eyes dry throughout the day, but it was amazing how you could feel her mother in the presence of all of the family and friends that surrounded the couple.
