The thing that I love about the direction photography has gone is, is that these sessions can become anything you want them to. Often, the same question comes up, “Where do you recommend we do our family session?” My answer is almost always going to be the same: Is there a place that’s special to you? Yes, family photos are about the people in them and the emotions. However, there is also an environmental element that should be considered. Where your photos take place are going to help tell your story. Let’s look at some different examples of places that I’ve photographed families and why these locations were chosen.

So much changes over the years, including who we are as individuals, and as a unit. I love that we were able to completely freeze these moments so that they can look back on what life meant for them in that stage. I love that seniors are going the way of these sessions. I had so much fun photographing Katie. Capturing her personality was such a treat. I had photographed her sister when she was graduating, so I was honored when Katie’s mom contacted me a couple of years later. I love that their parents will have a portrait session of each other their daughters, to really remember that time in their lives. I’m also glad that these sisters will have real photographs to remember their years in high school. Both sisters moved away to go to college, so I hope I gave their parents a gift to treasure every time they look at them.
