If you know anything about me, you know that I’m obsessed with plants and greenhouses. So, this Tallahassee greenhouse wedding at Purple Martin Outpost is something out of my dreams. It was featured in The Knot Florida Magazine, so I’ll share what Katie and Buck shared in the magazine:
How did you meet? I knew Buck’s sisters at least a year before meeting him. We met through mutual friends but it did not click….at first. We ran into one another at the Greek Food Festival in Tallahassee in 2010 and this is where our romance officially started!
Did you hire a consultant, planner or day of coordinator? Or did you do it all yourself? We planned it all on our own with the help of Ed Blissard (with Purple Martin Nurseries) and Buck’s younger sister Cate Bradley assisted us with day of wedding coordination.
Why did you pick the venue/site? Was it a destination wedding? The Purple Martin Outpost is a beautiful location less than a mile from our home. We often take our dogs on walks there (business is very pet friendly). Our friend Ed Blissard suggesting using the site, which has not been used for weddings since the Outpost has been in business. We knew immediately that this suggestion was the perfect idea.
The ceremony: I was raised by a single mother so it was only fitting that she would escort me down the aisle. Buck and I are not very religious; we place a strong emphasis on family and friends and surrounding ourselves with the ones we love. We wrote our own vows together. Everyone that knows us knows we love our dogs! My older sister Liz read a poem for the ceremony entitled “Falling in Love is like owning a dog.” I also love poetry, one of my favorite poems being “I carry your heart” by E.E. Cummings. Buck’s sisters Cate and Jessica read this poem in the ceremony. The wedding ceremony itself was short and sweet, just how we wanted it.
Your advice for other couples getting married: My best advice is to remember to have fun with it! Everyone knows wedding planning is stressful and time consuming; make sure to find the time to laugh.
Your insider tips: Buck and I are extremely lucky to be surrounded by talented, supportive friends and family who were literally vital to our wedding day. We simply could not have done it without the vision and hard work of Ed Blissard, landscape designer extraordinaire. With Carin Butler as the pastry chef, Casey Rychlik as the music man, and Shannon Griffin as our photographer I never had to worry that they would not deliver! Be sure to choose a caterer that makes your life easier, not harder. Catering Capers was a one stop shop for linens, cutlery, plates, non alcoholic drinks, servers, in addition to amazing food.
