Ashton and Eben's glamorous art deco inspired wedding took place at The Heitman house in Ft. Myers. It is one that is truly close to my heart. I have known Eben since I was the young age of 19. Ashton and I met while both attending the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. We became roommates shortly after graduating, back in 2006. We lived together in a few different apartments, which one does in their early 20's. We went on so many adventures together and it's a precious time in my life that I will always look back on fondly.
Fast forward to a few years of Ashton and I living together. She would come with me to visit my family in Jacksonville on a regular basis. On one of our trips we decided we were going to go out dancing. I hadn't talked to Eben in years, but for some reason I decided to call him and see if he would like to meet up with us. As soon as Eben walked into the room Ashton lit up. They spent the entire night dancing and laughing. I know it's cliche, but they have been inseparable ever since.
These two are a part of a group of friends that get together and travel at least once a year. In 2015 we were on a trip in Savannah when Eben popped the question. It was so special to be there when Eben asked such a life-changing question. I am so incredibly fond of Eben and I knew that he was going to take care of my dear friend for the rest of her life. It is rare that you get to say that with such certainty. It was also on this trip that Ashton announced she was having the wedding in six months. We all thought she was out of her mind, but you can tell by the images that she planned a gorgeous event.
When Ashton asked if I would photograph the wedding it was one of the highest honors I've ever been given. I knew it was going to be special, but until the day came, I really had no concept of just how moving it would be. I not only watched my dear friend get married, I also had the privilege to capture such fleeting moments. It's a day I will never forget.
These two wanted a 20's style wedding and they achieved it in such a beautiful way. Ashton spent months collecting old candelabras from thrift stores and online. She ordered her flowers wholesale and we spent the previous day putting together the arrangements. There were very sentimental touches like wearing her grandmother's jewelry and her mother making her bouquet. It was completely DIU, but you would never guess it.
