Layla and Daniel are some of the kindest people I’ve ever had the honor to photograph. Layla is an analyst at US Government Accountability Office and she is constantly fighting for women’s rights. Daniel is a published writer and a news editor at The Wall Street Journal. They are just incredible humans and I’m so glad that I got to meet them and become friends.
Layla wrote perfectly about combining their customs and traditions into their wedding:
“Our wedding day was so special for many reasons. We joined together to become a family after six years of dating, in front of our loved ones. Our Persian-Jewish ceremony was transcendent and absolutely perfect. We were extremely thoughtful about all the pieces of the ceremony, including the Persian sofreh, the music (I walked down the aisle to Eric Clapton's "Layla"), the program, the readings, our wedding party, and our personalized vows. It was a gorgeous day in August and the surrounding oak trees were majestic in the foreground. My best friend and Maid of Honor, Jennifer, who is responsible for getting us together, stood by me and her wonderful, talented, accomplished mother, Jana, married us. My mother walked me down the aisle and she recited a poem by Hafez in Persian. Our ceremony seamlessly incorporated the traditions of three religions and cultures.
It was amazing to celebrate afterwards with our family and friends, 79 of whom flew in from out of town. We had a Persian DJ and Persian food, which everyone enjoyed.
We also had a great time with our guests at the rehearsal dinner, the post-wedding brunch, and the beach following the wedding. Building extra time in to talk with friends and family was priceless.
Now looking back on the wedding, we're so happy we chose a photographer we love. We LOVE going through the pictures of our wedding day and we're so happy Shannon was there to capture all the special moments. Also, the first look was definitely among our favorite parts of the entire wedding day. It was really romantic and special and it gave us the opportunity to be alone with each other, and focus on nothing else, for about an hour ahead of the wedding.”
